About Roewe
Roewe is a Chinese automotive brand owned by the SAIC Motor Corporation, headquartered in Shanghai. Established in 2006, Roewe was created to serve as SAIC's flagship passenger car marque following its acquisition of certain engineering assets from the former British automaker Rover. Although often associated with Rover's legacy, Roewe has evolved into a distinctly modern Chinese brand, focused on intelligent, connected, and electrified mobility within SAIC's multi-brand EV ecosystem that also includes MG, Rising Auto, and IM Motors.
Roewe's early lineup consisted of ICE sedans and SUVs, but the brand has since undergone a major transformation toward new energy vehicles (NEVs)- encompassing both battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). Today, Roewe's product portfolio includes models such as the Roewe D7 EV, Roewe D7 DMH (PHEV), Roewe Ei5 (electric wagon), Roewe i5 EV, and the Roewe RX5 eMAX. These vehicles are designed for practicality, comfort, and digital integration, catering to China's rapidly expanding middle-class EV market.
The Roewe D7 EV, launched in 2023, represents the brand's new design language under the "Digital Intelligence Aesthetics" concept. Built on SAIC's modular Nebula EV platform, it features a 61 or 82 kWh battery with up to 610 kilometers of range (CLTC). It supports 800-volt fast charging, replenishing 200 kilometers of range in about 10 minutes, and incorporates a high-efficiency silicon-carbide motor system. The D7 emphasizes aerodynamics, digital cockpit design, and intelligent driving, equipped with a full-width LED light bar, minimalist interior, and SAIC's latest Zebra Zhixing OS infotainment system co-developed with Alibaba.
The Roewe Ei5, introduced earlier as one of China's first electric station wagons, remains popular in fleet and private markets due to its practicality and low operating cost. It offers up to 501 kilometers of range (CLTC) and continues to serve as a staple in China's electric urban commuter segment. Roewe's PHEV variants- including the RX5 eMAX and D7 DMH- feature SAIC's DMH dual-motor hybrid system, providing flexible operation between EV and extended-range modes for customers in regions with limited charging infrastructure.
Technologically, Roewe is deeply integrated into SAIC's smart mobility ecosystem. Its vehicles leverage the R-TECH intelligent architecture, featuring advanced driver assistance (Level 2+), voice-controlled AI assistants, over-the-air updates, and full smartphone integration. The brand also benefits from SAIC's vertical supply chain, including its proprietary battery manufacturing, drive units, and semiconductor control systems.
Design plays a central role in Roewe's identity. Recent models adopt sleek, minimalistic aesthetics emphasizing aerodynamics and digital fluidity, with premium interiors featuring sustainable materials. Roewe's vehicles are positioned just below IM Motors and Rising Auto in SAIC's brand hierarchy- balancing affordability with refinement and innovation.
As part of SAIC's long-term strategy, Roewe will continue expanding its BEV offerings globally, with select models already exported under the MG brand in international markets. Domestically, Roewe serves as SAIC's volume leader in intelligent and electrified passenger vehicles, complementing its higher-end and performance-oriented sub-brands.
Electrification Status
Roewe is a transitioning automaker rapidly advancing toward full electrification within the SAIC Group. With models such as the D7 EV and Ei5 leading its BEV lineup- supported by plug-in hybrids and smart digital architectures- Roewe integrates affordability, intelligence, and design sophistication to deliver practical, connected, and efficient zero-emission mobility for the mass market.
