About NIO

NIO is a Chinese premium electric vehicle manufacturer headquartered in Shanghai, founded in 2014 by entrepreneur William Li (Li Bin). Often referred to as "China's Tesla," NIO has become one of the most recognized EV brands globally, known for its intelligent design, user-centered ecosystem, and pioneering battery-swapping technology. The company positions itself at the intersection of performance, innovation, and lifestyle, offering premium BEVs with high technology content and strong community engagement through its NIO app and owner network.

NIO's product lineup includes a range of sedans and SUVs built on its advanced NT2.0 platform, featuring an 800-volt architecture, dual-motor powertrains, and Level 2+ autonomous driving capabilities. Core models include the ET5 and ET7 sedans, the EC6 and EC7 coupes, and the ES6, ES7, and ES8 SUVs. These vehicles feature high energy density battery packs- available in 75 kWh, 100 kWh, and 150 kWh solid-state configurations- and ranges of up to 1,000 kilometers (CLTC). NIO's interiors emphasize digital minimalism, featuring large AMOLED displays, intelligent lighting, and the AI-powered voice assistant NOMI.

A defining feature of NIO's ecosystem is its proprietary battery swapping network. Through its Power Swap Stations (PSS), drivers can replace a depleted battery with a fully charged one in under three minutes. As of 2025, NIO operates over 2,500 swap stations across China and is rapidly expanding into Europe, particularly in Norway, Germany, and the Netherlands. This system complements its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription model, allowing customers to lower vehicle purchase costs while upgrading battery capacity over time.

NIO's autonomous driving system, NIO AD, utilizes an extensive sensor suite including LiDAR, radar, 11 cameras, and NVIDIA Drive Orin chips. The system supports highway, urban, and parking assist functions with continuous OTA software updates. The brand's vehicles also feature 5G connectivity, advanced thermal management, and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) readiness, highlighting its technology-first engineering philosophy.

Beyond vehicles, NIO has created a comprehensive brand ecosystem including NIO Houses (community showrooms and lounges), NIO Life (lifestyle products), and NIO Power (energy infrastructure). These initiatives reinforce the company's identity as more than an automaker- a lifestyle and technology platform built around user experience and sustainability. NIO has also announced plans for its Firefly and Alps sub-brands, targeting affordable EV segments for Europe and China respectively.

Production is handled through JAC-NIO Advanced Manufacturing Center in Hefei and a second NIO plant for next-generation models. The company is also investing in global R&D, with engineering centers in Munich, Silicon Valley, and Oxford.
