About Munro
Munro Vehicles is a Scottish electric vehicle manufacturer headquartered near Glasgow, Scotland, specializing in rugged, high-performance 4x4 utility vehicles designed for demanding industrial, agricultural, and off-road applications. Founded in 2019 by Russ Peterson and Ross Anderson, Munro was created to provide a durable, zero-emission alternative to traditional diesel-powered work trucks, engineered and built entirely in the United Kingdom.
The company's first model, the Munro MK_1, debuted in 2022 as the UK's first all-electric 4x4 utility vehicle. Designed from the ground up for heavy-duty use, the MK_1 features a body-on-frame construction, permanent four-wheel drive, and a choice of 220 kW (295 hp) or 280 kW (375 hp) electric motors. The vehicle is powered by an 82.4 kWh battery pack, providing up to 320 kilometers (200 miles) of range under mixed driving conditions. With a 1,000 kg payload capacity, 3,500 kg towing capacity, and 800 mm wading depth, the MK_1 combines the robustness of a traditional off-roader with the instant torque and simplicity of an EV drivetrain.
The MK_1 is offered in both Utility (two-seat) and Performance (five-seat) configurations, targeting commercial users, forestry operations, mining, renewable energy sites, and defense applications. Munro emphasizes serviceability and modular design- its vehicles are built using simple mechanical systems and readily available components to ensure ease of maintenance in remote environments. Charging is supported via 22 kW AC or 100 kW DC fast charging, enabling an 80% recharge in just over 30 minutes.
Production of the MK_1 takes place at Munro's dedicated facility in East Kilbride, Scotland, with plans to expand to a larger site capable of producing up to 2,500 vehicles annually by 2026. The company's vehicles are hand-assembled, ensuring quality and allowing for customer customization across fleet, industrial, and utility sectors. Munro has also announced future models, including a pickup truck variant and a short-wheelbase version optimized for specialized field operations.
With its rugged simplicity, long life expectancy, and focus on electric utility, Munro fills a niche in the global EV market that prioritizes functionality and reliability over luxury or volume production. Its vehicles are seen as electric successors to iconic off-road workhorses such as the Land Rover Defender and Toyota Land Cruiser- purpose-built for environments where durability matters most.
Pure Electric Identity
Munro is a pure-play electric automaker, developing all vehicles and technologies exclusively for zero-emission off-road and industrial mobility. With its MK_1 platform and upcoming variants, the brand combines mechanical simplicity, extreme durability, and clean power to deliver the next generation of all-electric work vehicles built for real-world toughness.
