About MINI
MINI is a British automotive brand owned by the BMW Group, headquartered in Munich, Germany. Originally established in 1959 as part of the British Motor Corporation (BMC), MINI has become one of the most recognizable small-car brands in the world, known for its playful design, compact size, and engaging driving dynamics. Under BMW ownership since 2000, MINI has been reimagined as a premium urban lifestyle brand, and it is now entering a new chapter as it transitions toward becoming fully electric.
MINI's electrification journey began with the MINI Cooper SE (also known as the MINI Electric), launched in 2020. Built on the same platform as the combustion MINI Hatch, the Cooper SE features a 135 kW (181 hp) electric motor and a 32.6 kWh battery, offering up to 230 kilometers (WLTP) of range. It preserves the brand's characteristic "go-kart" handling while introducing zero-emission performance to MINI's core audience. The Cooper SE quickly became one of Europe's top-selling small EVs, proving the viability of MINI's electric future.
In 2023, MINI revealed its next generation all-electric lineup, starting with the new MINI Cooper Electric and the MINI Countryman Electric. The new Cooper Electric is built on a dedicated EV platform developed in collaboration with Great Wall Motor through the Spotlight Automotive joint venture in China. It is available in Cooper E and Cooper SE variants, featuring battery capacities of 40.7 and 54.2 kWh respectively, and ranges up to 400 kilometers (WLTP). The new Countryman Electric, produced in Leipzig, Germany, offers a larger crossover format with up to 313 hp and a range of around 450 kilometers.
MINI has also unveiled the Aceman, a compact electric crossover positioned between the Cooper and Countryman. The Aceman introduces a new minimalist digital interior with the brand's signature circular OLED center display and advanced digital assistant. It represents the next evolution of MINI's design language- clean, emotional, and digital-first- while maintaining its compact proportions and agile personality.
The company has confirmed that from 2030 onward, MINI will sell only fully electric vehicles, making it the first brand within the BMW Group to commit entirely to an all-electric future. Production of electric models will be split between China (for global compact EVs) and Europe (for larger vehicles like the Countryman), ensuring flexibility and sustainability in supply chains.
Electrification Status
MINI is a transitioning automaker rapidly advancing toward a fully electric lineup. With new BEV platforms developed under the Spotlight Automotive joint venture and a global commitment to 100% electric sales by 2030, MINI is combining its urban heritage and fun-to-drive character with zero-emission innovation for the next generation of city mobility.
