About Li Auto
Li Auto (Li Xiang, Inc.) is a Chinese new energy vehicle manufacturer headquartered in Beijing, founded in 2015 by entrepreneur Li Xiang. The company focuses on intelligent premium SUVs and MPVs, emphasizing long range capability, advanced driver assistance, and software defined user experiences. Li Auto is publicly traded on both the Nasdaq and Hong Kong Stock Exchange and is part of China's "new wave" of EV makers alongside NIO and XPeng, though it differentiates itself with a strong focus on extended range hybrid technology as a bridge toward full electrification.
Li Auto's current product portfolio includes the L7, L8, L9, and MEGA, all large luxury vehicles positioned in the family and executive segments. The L series models utilize Li Auto's proprietary EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle) system, which pairs a large battery with a small gasoline generator to provide over 1,000 kilometers of total range while maintaining full time electric drive. This approach has proven highly successful in China, giving Li Auto a commanding share of the high end NEV SUV market. Each vehicle integrates a dual motor AWD setup, advanced cabin technology, and multi screen infotainment systems powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon platforms.
The company's first fully electric vehicle, the Li MEGA, launched in early 2024 as a premium multi purpose vehicle (MPV) built on a dedicated 800 volt high voltage architecture. It features fast charging capability that can add 500 kilometers of range in 12 minutes and an ultra aerodynamic design with a drag coefficient of just 0.215. The MEGA uses CATL's Qilin battery and demonstrates Li Auto's transition toward pure battery electric models while maintaining its focus on comfort, safety, and long distance efficiency.
Li Auto is also developing an advanced autonomous driving system known as Li AD Max, powered by NVIDIA Orin processors and a full sensor suite including LiDAR, radar, and high resolution cameras. The system supports high speed navigation assist and urban NOA (Navigate on Autopilot), integrated into the brand's in house developed operating system for continuous over the air updates. Future vehicles will integrate Li Auto's own AD chips and domain controllers to enhance autonomy and vehicle intelligence.
To support its rapid expansion, Li Auto has invested heavily in manufacturing capacity across China, including production facilities in Changzhou and Beijing, as well as a gigafactory partnership for next generation batteries. The company also operates one of the largest direct sales and service networks among Chinese EV startups, combining offline experience centers with a robust digital app ecosystem.
Electrification Status
Li Auto is a transitioning electric automaker evolving from range extended hybrids toward a full battery electric lineup. With the launch of the Li MEGA and several dedicated BEVs under development, the company is positioned to become a near pure play EV manufacturer by 2026, combining advanced energy management, autonomous driving, and premium design in its zero emission future.
