About JAC
JAC Motors (Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Co., Ltd.) is a Chinese state owned automobile manufacturer headquartered in Hefei, Anhui Province. Founded in 1964, JAC has grown into a diversified automotive group producing passenger cars, commercial trucks, buses, and new energy vehicles. Over the past decade, the company has undergone a major transformation toward electrification and intelligent mobility, supported by strong government backing and strategic partnerships with both domestic and international technology firms.
JAC's electrification strategy is anchored by its iEV and Yiwei (also branded as EV) series, offering a range of battery electric sedans, SUVs, and light commercial vehicles. Notable models include the JAC iEV7S, iC5 sedan, and Yiwei 3, all designed to provide affordable electric mobility with competitive range and advanced connectivity features. The brand's EVs are powered by CATL supplied lithium ion batteries and equipped with JAC's in house developed electric drive systems optimized for efficiency and reliability.
JAC also plays a pivotal role in China's export oriented EV industry, supplying electric commercial vehicles, delivery vans, and buses to markets in Europe, South America, and the Middle East. Its light commercial EVs, developed under the Sunray and Refine sub brands, are used widely in logistics and urban transport applications. The company is expanding its overseas presence through joint assembly operations and technology licensing agreements to support global EV adoption.
One of JAC's most significant strategic developments has been its partnership with Volkswagen Group, which acquired a controlling stake in JAC's EV subsidiary in 2020 to form Volkswagen Anhui. This joint venture focuses on developing and manufacturing small and mid size electric vehicles for the Chinese and global markets using Volkswagen's MEB platform. The collaboration has strengthened JAC's technological capabilities and integrated it into a global EV production ecosystem.
In 2023, JAC introduced the Yiwei brand as a new generation of intelligent electric vehicles designed to compete with BYD, Geely, and GAC in China's fast growing mid market segment. These vehicles feature software defined platforms, AI enhanced cockpits, and modern design aimed at younger consumers. The brand's first model, the Yiwei 3, marks JAC's reentry into the passenger EV space under a more contemporary identity.
Through its multi brand strategy, export reach, and Volkswagen partnership, JAC Motors has evolved into one of China's most globally connected EV manufacturers. Its balance of affordability, technology, and scalability positions it as an important contributor to China's broader electrification and automotive modernization effort.
