About Hongqi
Hongqi (meaning "Red Flag") is a Chinese luxury automotive brand owned by FAW Group Corporation and headquartered in Changchun, Jilin Province. Established in 1958, Hongqi is China's oldest passenger car marque and has long served as the official vehicle supplier for state ceremonies and government leadership. Once known primarily for its chauffeur driven sedans, the brand has been redefined in the modern era as a full spectrum luxury manufacturer specializing in advanced electrification, intelligent connectivity, and design innovation.
Hongqi's transformation began in the late 2010s under FAW's "New Hongqi" strategy, which expanded the lineup from state limousines into consumer oriented luxury sedans and SUVs. The brand now offers a growing range of new energy vehicles (NEVs), including plug in hybrids and fully electric models such as the Hongqi E-HS9, Hongqi E-HS3, and Hongqi E-QM5. The E-HS9, a full size luxury SUV, serves as the brand's flagship EV, combining dual motor all wheel drive with a range exceeding 500 kilometers and a premium interior aimed at competing with global luxury brands.
Hongqi's latest generation of electric vehicles is built on FAW's dedicated FMEs (FAW Modular Electric System) platform, supporting fast charging, intelligent driving, and software defined architectures. The company is also introducing high performance models under the Hongqi H Series and new concept vehicles such as the Hongqi E-LS9 and Hongqi EH7, which reflect its ambition to enter the ultra luxury and executive EV markets both domestically and internationally.
The brand's design evolution, led by international styling teams based in Munich and Shanghai, merges traditional Chinese motifs with modern luxury aesthetics. Hongqi's vehicles emphasize comfort, refinement, and cultural symbolism, incorporating advanced materials, digital dashboards, and semi autonomous driver assistance features. The company has also begun limited exports to Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia as part of its global expansion plan.
Through its blend of heritage, state level prestige, and modern EV technology, Hongqi is redefining itself as China's national luxury brand for the electric era. Its growing lineup of sedans and SUVs demonstrates FAW Group's capability to compete in the premium electrification segment on a global scale.
